Chocolate, Bagels & Barbecue at the Pink Palace Museum
Memphis’s city museum, the Pink Palace, has two new exhibits opening this month and lasting through the spring.
The Chocolate exhibit is a multi-room exploration of the history, significance, and uses of chocolate throughout history. The story starts with the Myans, continues in high-society Europe (where the saucer was invented as a way to keep drinking chocolate off of fancy clothing), and ends with chocolate in current pop culture. The exhibit is interactive, which makes it great for kids – there are plenty of things to touch, videos to watch, and games to play.
Chocolate was developed by the Field Museum in Chicago and will be on display in Memphis through May 2, 2010.
The Pink Palace is also showing “Bagels and Barbecue: the Jewish Experience in Tennessee”. The exhibit focuses on the cultural contributions and experiences of Jewish people in the Mid-South. The exhibit is on a state-wide tour and is a joint effort of the Tennessee State Museum in collaboration with the Jewish Federation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee, Jewish Community Federation of Greater Chattanooga, Knoxville Jewish Alliance, and Memphis Jewish Federation.
Both exhibits are included in the regular price of museum admission.
